About Ms. Parlow

My name is Kaitlyn Parlow and I am FTCES 8th Grade Math Teacher.  This is my first year at Franklin Towne Elementary School and I am so excited to be teaching at such a great school.  I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Manhattan College and after working as an engineer for a few years, decided to follow my passion and become a teacher.  I obtained my Master’s Degree from Villanova University in Education.  I am looking forward to a great school year!

Merits

Students who go above and beyond expectations will be rewarded with merits.  Students should not request or expect merits for doing what is supposed to be done.  Students will be rewarded upon meeting designated thresholds.

Homework Policy

  • Homework assignments will be valuable extensions of learning or a preview for upcoming lessons.
  • All students are required to copy their homework assignments in their planner when they arrive to class.
  • Students are required to complete all homework and projects entirely and submit them on time (at the beginning of class) on the assigned due date.
  • Any student failing to complete a homework assignment will receive an Administrative Lunch Detention and is subject to progressive disciplinary action as described in the Handbook and Code of Conduct.

Appointment Slips

  • Tutoring slips will be issued when a student begins showing signs of struggling or needs to make up work.
  • Students do not need to wait for me to issue an appointment.  They can request an appointment if they find they need extra help.
  • Tutoring will occur in the morning beginning at 7:45am (with two days notice).
  • Students are required to attend all teacher requested appointments.  Failure to attend will result in an Administrative Detention for cutting a teacher appointment.
  • As the year progresses, small group tutoring will take place after school once a week, especially the week of a test.
  • Remember, there is no shame in getting extra help if you need it.
