Towne Scholars

NAME

The name of this organization shall be the Towne Scholars of Franklin Towne Charter Elementary.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this organization shall be to celebrate and continue the qualities of scholarship, character, service, citizenship, leadership in students of Franklin Towne Charter.

POWERS

Section 1. This organization operates under the direction of and in full compliance with Franklin Towne Charter Schools.

Section 2. The organization advisers are given the authority to supervise the administration of organization activities, as delegated by the head of school.

Section 3. Final authority on all activities and decisions of the organization resides with the head of school.

Section 4. Nondiscrimination. Towne Scholars maintains policies and practices that are designed to prevent discrimination against any qualified candidate or member on the basis of race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, and disability. This policy of nondiscrimination applies to all practices, including the organization administration and the selection, discipline, and dismissal of members.

MEMBERSHIP

Section 1. Membership in this organization is an honor bestowed upon deserving students by the faculty and shall be based on the criteria of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.

Section 2. Eligibility:
  • Candidates eligible for selection to this organization must be in seventh or eighth grade.
  • To be eligible for selection to membership in this organization, the candidate must have been enrolled for a period equivalent to one semester at Franklin Towne Charter Elementary.
  • Candidates eligible for election to Towne Scholars shall be in the top 10% of their Grade Level.
  • Upon meeting the 7th and 8th Grade requirements, enrollment, and grade level standing, candidates shall then be considered based on their community service, leadership, depth of character, and democracy.

SELECTION OF MEMBERS

Section 1. The selection of members to this organization shall be by a majority vote of the faculty council which consists of members of the teaching staff and Administration.

Section 2. The selection of active members shall be held once a year during the first semester of the school year.

Section 3. Prior to the final selection, the following shall occur:

  • Students' academic and disciplinary records shall be reviewed to determine scholastic eligibility.
  • All students who are eligible scholastically shall be notified and asked to complete and submit the candidate input form for further consideration.
  • The faculty will evaluate candidates determined to be scholastically eligible using the official input form provided by the chapter adviser.
  • The faculty council shall review the candidate information forms and faculty input.

Section 4. Candidates become members when inducted at a special ceremony.

Section 5. Towne Scholar members in 7th Grade who do not remain in the top 10 % of their Grade when entering 8th Grade will still be given an opportunity to apply for Towne Scholars. Academics, along with your application detailing the contributions you made in the previous year, will be considered for admittance into Towne Scholars. There is no guarantee given that members will remain in the club from 7th to 8th Grade.
