Franklin Towne has been working tirelessly over the past nine weeks to develop a plan for the reopening of school according to the recommendations and guidelines set by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Center for Disease Control. Our overall goal has always been to reopen and to maintain a rigorous and robust academic program for learning. However, given our large student population and restrictions placed on schools to continue to maintain social distancing, recent data from the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, and feedback from both parents and staff from last week’s survey; Franklin Towne has decided to begin the school year fully virtual.

This decision was not made lightly.  We want to assure you that Franklin Towne is committed to bringing students back into the building to resume in-person instruction as soon as possible. During the school year, we will continue to closely monitor and assess current data as well as guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Education for a potential date that we can safely resume in-person instruction.

Our virtual learning schedule and requirements will be more rich and meaningful compared to the learning model that was implemented in the spring. We will be mirroring the physical school day to our virtual school day in that school will begin at 8:00am and will end at 3:00pm Monday through Thursday and 1:30 PM on Friday. Students will follow a schedule based on their roster and teachers will conduct their classes live. During the month of June our teachers were professionally trained in the art of distance learning and have been practicing those strategies and techniques throughout the summer. In addition, Franklin Towne will be providing a Google Chromebook laptop to every student to ensure all students have access to digital learning opportunities while school buildings remain closed.

School will begin Monday August 31, 2020. We have dedicated the week of August 31st through September 4th  to the distribution of Chromebooks, student class rosters and other necessary materials. Please mark this week in your calendar. We will be sending out an additional email that will contain more information regarding this process including the date and time you and your child are scheduled to arrive as well as other requirements. Lastly, please be sure to update any change in your email address and phone number that we would have on file to ensure that you are notified as quickly as possible regarding any future announcements.
